IMPRESSIVE IMPRESSIONS
A Juried Exhibition of Bay Area Printmakers
EXHIBITION: November 27th - December 22nd
RECEPTION: Friday, December 8th
6:00 PM-9:00 PM
Market Street Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition highlighting currents in Bay Area printmaking as determined by guest jurors Terry Chastian and John Gruenwald, both of whom have been active in working with and showing work of printmakers at Tinhorn Gallery (now Tinhorn Public Works) in Hayes Valley.
Chastain has curated numerous exhibits dedicated to printmaking and works on paper, drawing on a vast community of emerging and mid-career artists, and has taught extensively nationally and abroad. Locally, Chastian leads workshops at Kala Institute. In 1994, in conjunction with printmaker John Gruenwald, he founded Tinhorn Press. After several years printing in the cellar of Momi Tobys Revolution Café & Art Bar, Chastain moved the operation to a storefront across the street and Tinhorn Gallery was established.
Gruenwald, in addition to his own printmaking, has worked over 25 years as a master printer for other artists including stints at Cream City Graphics, Milwaukee, WI, Windmill Press in Taos, NM, and Landfall Press in Chicago, IL. He currently operates Gruenwald Press, his own print studio in San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood.
The 15 artists selected for this exhibition are
Meri Brin, Stacy Frank, Edward Gould, Debra Jewell, Mike Kimball, Mary Ann Leff, Tatiana Lyskova,
Marti McKee, Ronald Newman, Andreas Nottebohm, Andrew Ogus, Patricia Payne, Sandra Oseguera,
Jenny Robinson, Andrey Semyonov, Sylvia Sussman and Othmar Tobisch.
Printmaking techniques exhibited include blockprint, drypoint, etching, monotype, screenprint and more.
